YMCA Brings People Together for Lifelong Wellness

CategoriesUncategorized

Is anything sweeter than the sound of a high-five, after you’ve achieved a fitness goal?

September is Healthy Aging Month, a time to reflect with gratitude on the people in your yoga class, strength training group or aqua aerobics class who celebrate your wins and give you the encouragement you need, just when you need it most.

YMCA believes that community is a key component of health for older active adults, and we have designed our programs with an eye toward building an environment that fosters meaningful connections.

As we get older, friendships and bonds we had through work and family can start to disappear. By combining physical activity with a place to connect, discover and grow as a community, the YMCA is committed to supporting lifelong wellness.

Being part of something bigger than yourself helps develop a strong Spirit, Mind and Body. In fact, the U.S. Surgeon General says that the health risks associated with social isolation and loneliness are the equivalent of smoking 15 cigarettes a day. At the YMCA, we have built a supportive fitness community that gives you more than a place to workout. It’s a place to belong.

Unlimited exercise groups, swimming and outdoor exercise options (at some locations), and strength and cardio rooms bring people with similar goals together to build each other up – as they build up their strength, balance and agility.

YMCA Orange County’s new Nutrition Counseling Programs can also pair you with a registered dietician nutritionist to create an individualized nutrition plan based on your body metrics, goals and lifestyle. Meeting virtually and in person, the six-session package provides accountability, support and strategies to help you succeed on your wellness journey.

Whatever your fitness goals, you don’t have to strive for them on your own. When you reach a peak or meet a milestone, the YMCA is here to give you a high-five. From now until September 30th, become a member at any one of our five fitness centers and pay a $0 join fee. Click here to learn more!
