Expanding Our Horizons.jpgMARTIAL ARTS

YMCA Martial Arts classes develop strength, balance, flexibility, and self-defense skills in a fun and supportive environment that emphasizes character development and self-discipline.

Danzan Ryo Jujitsu

Danzan Ryo Jujitsu is one of the original Japanese systems taught throughout the world. It is known as the “Gentle Art of Self Defense.” It is easy to learn and fun for all ages. Jujitsu is truly a defensive art that is down to earth, sensible and effective even on larger and stronger opponents.

Shito-Ryu Karate

Classes at the Saddleback Valley YMCA are taught by 2008 Genbu-Kai Belt Hall of Fame inductee and 4th Degree Black Belt, Sensei Greg Collier. Sensei Collier has been a student of the Martial Arts for over 45 years and began Shito-Ryu Karate under Shihan Fumio Demura in 1969. Classes teach self defense, physical fitness, discipline and flexibility. Shito-Ryu is one of the four main traditional styles of Karate from Japan.

Enshin Karate

The core emphasis in Enshin is use of the Sabaki Method, a system of techniques employed with the goal of turning an opponent's power and momentum against him or her and repositioning oneself to the opponent's "blind" spot to counterattack from a more advantageous position. Sensei Tokashiki has been studying karate for more than 23 years and has been teaching for more than 16 years. Sensei Tokashiki is an enthusiastic Karate practitioner and always eager to share the spirit of Martial Arts.
