Afterschool Care Location: Barcelona The Y provides an inclusive before and after school care program that supports the needs and priorities of the child, the family and the school. Our programs facilitate the development of the whole child through meaningful experiences, activities, and collaborations that build relationships and a sense of community.  

Program Philosophy and Core Values

  • YMCA Afterschool programs strive to provide a safe, secure and supportive environment that gives families peace of mind when you cannot be there yourself.
  • We believe that a child’s experience is dependent on family life and community life – YMCA programs strive to support the entire family with a variety of programming and character based curriculum.
  • We believe in focusing on your child’s abilities rather than their shortcomings.
  • We believe that when youth are exposed to consistent displays of positive character traits, they will develop a healthy self-esteem and a willingness to help others.
  • We believe that by supporting your local school, your child will experience success. Our programs offer a holistic approach to your child’s development by offering activities that strengthen, expand and provide real life context to information learned in the classroom.
  • We believe that building strong kids and strong families will strengthen the foundation of our communities.

The YMCA is awesome because we get to play games and make stuff! I love to play games at the YMCA, the yard is cool and I could stay there all day. I like playing the Wii and pool.

I like to work at Smith YMCA because I have a great boss that would help me and others. I also like it because I like helping kids. I think the YMCA is a great place for kids to come because they get to meet friends and learn the 6 pillars and other fun things they have at the YMCA. My memories from the YMCA is when a child ask me how to spell YMCA; I thought it was funny and cute. I came back because I love my job. The YMCA had showed me how to help families out.

I always liked the YMCA because they are kind and there are a lot of friends that are kind and respect each other. The YMCA is a great place to do homework. Also you can go to field trips with friends. My name is Maury and I've been in this program for two years and four months.

My child loves Seacliff YMCA. She participates in Friday Fun nights, loves all activities like Track and Field and outside play time. She doesnít mind doing homework when asked and loves going in the morning on days when I have to go to work early. She has about 6 friends she now sees outside of school because of the YMCA. The teachers always correct a child in the most constructive way. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the fact we have a bathroom inside the bldg!!!!! My daughter often brushes her teeth at the Y when we have a really rushed morning. She also changes for dance class when I pick her up in the afternoon. LOVE Ms. Theresa!!!!! Such a great attitude!!!!

Tyler - Camp Oakes

   
 

Camp is one of my favorite places to go. Here are some of the many reasons why. First of all when you're up at camp you are able to express yourself without being judged. I like that you're able to dance and sing all you want. I have been able to learn so much about myself and make new friends. Camp Oakes is like my home away from home. Thank you for letting me visit it year after year. It's my favorite thing to do every summer and hopefully every winter now too.
